Taeshi Diary

Kind of a sad diary thing. I make Bittersweet Candy Bowl, Not Enough Rings, and the Ask Roseville High Tumblr.

Day 6: Favourite Fighting Type
Pancham was the first Pokemon from Gen 6 that I came across. I didn’t even realise it was a new revealed Pokemon until my friends Mousey/snooths pointed it out to me.  Snooths had it as his avatar on twitter and Mousey likes to post Pokemon pictures in his tumblr all the time.. and then I just found out. I didn’t realise it was a Pokemon because.. its design was just so pleasantly good. I know that sounds kind of weird to say, but there was just something so perfect but simplistic about Pancham’s design, usually Pokemon designs feel like.. there’s a slight warp with the animal it might be based on to the point it feels pretty clearly like a Pokemon. Gen 1 had a lot of Pokemon really close to the animal it was based on (Like Bellsprout, Beedrill, etc) and later designs seemed to become more complex or obscure. IT’S HARD TO EXPLAIN THE FEELING I HAVE, BUT BASICALLY PANCHAM FELT LIKE A REALLY NICE DESIGN OF A LITTLE CUTE PANDA AND I DIDN’T REALISE IT WAS ACTUALLY A POCKET MONSTER. It just looks like a legit cute design of a panda.
That’s why I like it so much. It’s just.. refreshing in kind of a really simplistic way? It didn’t need to look bizarre, they didn’t need to add a random horn or over-the-top colour scheme or anything. It is literally a little fighting panda. And it’s PERFECT.
I like tsundere-grumbly Pangoro, but Pancham is just a Pokemon I really miss because I obviously evolved the one in my team and I kinda miss seeing its goofy smug grinning face as it kicked ass in battle.
